Thanksgiving Stew

Here's the approximate recipe for a really good stew / soup that would work for thanksgiving.

1 Cup wild rice
1 Cup lentils
1 Cup barley
1 Cup brown rice
10-12 Cups water or veg broth
3 potatoes, chopped
4 carrots, chopped
2 onions, chopped
2 bay leaves
8 oz mushrooms, chopped
Any root veggies you like
2-4 cloves garlic, crushed
At least 1/4 Cup combination of these dry seasonings: salt, pepper, coriander seed, celery seed, basil, oregano, cloves, rosemary

Throw it all in a pot, cook on high until boiling, turn down and simmer for about 1-2 hours, serve. Add extra broth or water as needed. Half-hour before serving, taste, adjust seasoning and water. Serve with a whole grain breat and you have a meal.

Note: You can reduce the time it takes by putting the pot on the stove and bring the broth to a boil, add herbs / spices first and then cut up everything else, adding them as you go. By the time you've cut everything up, the water should be ready to boil. Boil for 5 minutes, then simmer, covered. Stir a few times until everything is done. Adjust the flavor only at the end when it has reduced some.
