Not a recipe, but included here for those who like to eat more Raw or Live Food but find living in a colder clime harder to do so as it leaves them feeling cold during the long winter months. Well read on.
We all live in different climate zones from hot to freezing cold. What is in abundance in the South is not always available in the North. We have to adapt ourselves to what is available locally, to the weather conditions and our life style. People in the tropics may enjoy exotic fruits and never feel the need for any warm or hot dishes. However, people living in colder climes feel colder on an all raw food diet, especially in the midst of winter. No wonder, the metabolism is slowed down on an all raw diet to ease absorption of nutrients, all processes in the body move smoothly and easily, and the body does not consume much energy to digest the food.
In many Northern climes a bowl of hot soup is a traditional dish, often in the form of a hearty stew, and people switching to a raw food diet will feel, from time to time, a desire for something warmer. If you feel cold and have cravings for something hot, especially a hearty soup, try soup recipes made with hot water and warmed bowls. Also, adding some grains will be more satisfying than something that resembles a liquid salad.
A suggestion: After sprouting barley, drain it and add it to carrots, pumpkin or other fall vegetable, some seasoning like sea vegetables and a handful of greens, like parsley or spinach. To add some fat (healthy oils) add some nuts or seeds, olive oil is also acceptable. Season as you like using herbs, a bit of sea salt or miso. Add your ingredients first to a blender, pulse to get the process started, then slowly add boiling hot water to keep the process going and form a smooth consistency. Once you have everything blended, serve warm with some crackers or a hearty bread with some butter. Hmmm. Nothing more satisfying than a hot / warm soup to warm you to the bone.
Take this suggestion and experiment with different grains and combinations of vegetables. To Help you get started, read: book title here.
Suggestion: Make only as much soup as you or others will eat in one sitting otherwise the soup will cool off too much and defeat the purpose of using hot water. What is worse is that you will be defeating the purpose of raw / live food as any extra soup made will decline in nutrients the longer the soup sits and will have to be thrown out.
