Licorice

Licorice root is great for treating arthritis: it stimulates cortisone and aldosterone, to steroids produced by the body which reduce inflammation. It is also sometimes used for treating peptic ulcers, and bladder and kidney ailments. There are also chemicals in licorice root known as triterpenoids, which are thought to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Licorice also contains plant estrogens and can be used to treat menopausal symptoms. Be careful if you have high blood pressure, because some of the vital chemicals in licorice have been known to raise it. With every herb, use only under the guidance of a trained practicioner.
