Feverfew

Latin Name: Tanacetum parthenium

A Perennial. Medicinal: Dainty white daisy flowers on medium to yellow/green leaves. Chewing the leaves daily may have some success in reducing migraine pain because of the accumulative effect, although the fresh leaves may irritate the mouth. The herb is mildly sedative and anti-inflammatory. Medicinally, feverfew nowadays celebrates two main virtues: its ability to decrease and prevent the severity of migraines and calm fevers (as its name suggests). The former, has been well documented recently by established scientific journals, which have isolated specific chemicals within the herb thought responsible for the ability to reduce headaches. There are a few situations in which this herb is not recommended so it is best to consult your health practitioner before using this herb.
