Comfrey

For centuries, herbalists have used comfrey to treat skin conditions. We now know that it works because it contains a substance known as allantoin, which is capable of stimulating the growth of new skin cells. Comfrey has been used internally to treat ulcers and irritable bowels, but extreme care must be taken as this herb has been known to cause liver damage in rats who ingested it for prolonged periods of time.
