Angelica

Angelica can be used for a wide variety of conditions. The Chinese and Japanese varieties contain highly active phytoestrogens and can therefore be used to treat abnormal estrogen levels in conditions such as menopause and amenorrhea. In Chinese medicine angelica, also known as dong quai, has also demonstrated pain-relieving properties, and relaxes smooth muscles. In light of the latter property, angelica is used in the treatment of uterine cramps and asthma. Some studies show that angelica is carcinogenic in large quantities, so care must be taken when using this herb.
