Reflexology:

(re·flex·ol·o·gy) the science or study of reflexes.

Also referred to as: Foot Reflexology, Zone therapy, Macroreflexology and microreflexology, Shiatsu that focuses on the hands and feet.

Developed by William Fitzgerald in the 1900's in the USA, but known in China as a healing therapy for many thousands of years. Based on the acupuncture system of meridians running throughout the body, accessible throughout the hands and head. Reflexology uses deep compression massage to detect and release blocked energy in the organs and the rest of the body.

An ancient Chinese technique that uses pressure-point massage to restore the flow of energy throughout the entire body.

A science based on the belief that each part of the body is interconnected through the meridian system through the ears, hands and feet. Stimulating specific reflex points in the feet can bring needed nutrients to poorly functioning areas of the body. This can help restore balance throughout the body.

A manual therapy exerted with pressure on different zones of reflex (mostly feet or hands) corresponding to some organs or parts of the body. Specially recommended to alleviate tensions and improve blood circulation, this technique provides relaxation and well-being.

Variation of acupressure whose postulate is that all bodily organs have corresponding external "reflex points" (on the scalp, ears, face, nose, tongue, neck, back, arms, wrists, hands, abdomen, legs, and feet), and that manipulation of these points can enhance the flow of "energy."

Reflexology (or zone therapy) is the practice of stimulating points on the feet, hands, or ears (termed reflex zones), in the hopes that it will have a beneficial effect on some other parts of the body, or will improve general health. The most common form is foot reflexology. The foot reflexologist applies pressure to points on a person's foot. The foot is believed by practicipants to be divided into a number of reflex zones corresponding to all parts of the body.
