Meditation:

(med·i·ta·tion) the act of reflecting upon or contemplating; an exercise in contemplation. A simple technique using your mind to relax and reduce stress and tension.

Meditation refers to a state in which the body is consciously relaxed and the mind is allowed to become calm and focused. Several major religions include ritual meditation; however, meditation itself need not be a religious or spiritual activity. Most of the more popular systems of meditation are of Eastern origin, though there exists also various forms of Christian, Jewish and Muslim meditation, not always leading to Enlightenment but a kind of religious rapture, a belife one has found god. A continuous and profound contemplation or musing on a subject or series of subjects of a deep or abstruse nature; "the habit of meditation is the basis for all real knowledge." It is the process the Buddha used to attain Enlightenment.

Meditation is not what you think, goes a kind of joke that was actually created to both explain and spark and epiphany-ah ha moment. Truest of Meditation is nothing more than the surrender of oneself to silence, rooting out all the darkness, preconcieved notions and allowing a calm knowing to replace it all, called, Enlightenment.

Meditation as a form of medicine that brings about mental calmness and physical relaxation by suspending the stream of thoughts, mental chatter, that normally occupy the mind. Generally performed once or twice a day for approximately 20 minutes or more at a time, meditation is used to reduce stress, alter hormone levels, and elevate one's mood. This is a technique of balance utilising focus, directed attention or awareness in varying durations.

Meditation is easy and simple way to balance a person's physical, emotional, and mental states. It is easily learned and has been used as an aid in treating stress, anxiety, pain management, and as part of an overall treatment for other conditions including hypertension and heart disease. Research shows that meditation decreases the heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen consumption, and even decreases blood pressure.

Different methods of focusing, breathing designed to bring about a heightened state of consciousness and/or enlightenment. A means of focusing the mind to reduce or eliminate conscious thought, to bring the mind to stillness or rest.

Bhavana (Pali). Development of the mind leading to awareness, tranquillity and wisdom. The process of becoming deeply acquainted with one's own mind.

The practice of inverting the mind to pay attention to the inner silence instead of the outer chaos. Other forms of meditation focus on the outer chaos instead. This practice is accepted in almost all religions, but is encouraged most in Buddhism.

Historically, a form of power gathering associated with oriental religions, especially Buddhism. Here, a generic term for power gathering and relaxation techniques meant to assist students in attaining their peak performance.

The philosophical orientation, the act of growing accustomed to that - usually in sitting practice, the implementation of that insight during the activities of daily life, and the final outcome resulting from such training.
