Fasting:

Defined as: to fast means abstaining from food; going without food, wholly or in part; denying the pleasure of eating.

The Christian bible and many other religious texts or teachings like Native Americans have, teach that fasting is a way to add emphasis to private prayers, introspection or as a way to make a connection with something higher than one self. Fasting was highly commended by Muhammad as an atonement for sin. Fasting has become of interest in today's world where it is hard to concentrate in the midst of busy lifestyles in a quickly-changing world.

Fasting is often used as a way to bring about healing. It is believed that by fasting one is purging the body of unwanted toxins; produced either by the body, environmental or both and is an internal cleaning. Fasting for health comes in many forms: Water - which is considered the hardest on the body, juice - vegetable or fruit, or through the use of limiting what a person eats. Many traditional forms of healing utilize Fasting as a way to treat disease, by itself or in combination with other modalities of healing.
