Acupuncture:

An ancient practice within Chinese medicine that is more than 5,000 years old of inserting thin needles just under the skin in specific locations along meridians, "energy pathways," on the body to control pain, cure illness, balance the bodies systems and other symptoms. Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve function of body systems. The World Health Organization says acupuncture can be beneficial in many medical conditions ranging from neurological and gastrointestinal to mental and emotional ones. It is a technique of balancing Qi / Chi (pronounced 'chee') or 'vital energy' that flows throughout the body along meridians related to the overall principles of Yin and Yang.

Acupuncture points (also called "acupoints or tsubo") are specific anatomical locations on the body that can be therapeutically useful for Acupuncture, Acupressure, Sonopuncture, or laser treatment. Medical science cannot explain and does not currently understand how these points work, but cheap commercial devices can detect changes in the electrical conductivity of the skin at these Acupuncture points, and the lack of understanding has not invalidated it, to the contrary, as research shows. Research continues to validate its practice in many areas. Scientific methods and Science, as understood by Westerners, as a whole may have to be revised to include a more subtle forms of healing currently least understood by the western mind set.
