Book Review Let it Rot!: The Gardener's Guide to Composting, Third Editionby Stu CampbellFrom the Back Cover: This is the classic guide to turning household waste into gardener's gold! Since 1975, Let It Rot! has helped countless gardeners recycle waste materials like household garbage, grass clippings, and ashes to create useful, soil-nourishing compost. The book covers reasons to compost; different approaches to try, how it works, a list of good materials to compost and what not to use, how to speed up decomposition, and how to make the best use of the end results. The book is also filled with helpful black-and-white illustrations. Composting can be an inexpensive, quick and simple way to improve the soil and nourish the plants you grow. Most gardening experts, not associated with corporations pushing products like fertilizers, say amending the soil with compost is just about the most important thing anyone can do to ensure a health and beautiful garden. It adds nutrients and organic matter which will hold water longer. A chapter called "Things You Might Worry About a Little" is a little much for beginners, at least in the beginning, but it's what makes the book valuable for all people composting. It is unfortunate that composting has a bit of a bad reputation with some neighbors taking neighbors who compost to court to get them to stop. It just shows the ignorance surrounding a natural process that happens everywhere in nature and couldn't be a more natural thing to do at home, and its never too late to start.
